Eman & Amal

(Belief and Practise)

The essence of Eman (belief) of a Muslim is the unwavering faith in Allah, Eman gets stronger with increasing trust in Allah. In Sura Al-Nahl (16:97) Allah addresses the believers of the importance of eman and good actions in the following words. “whoever, male or female, has  acted righteously, while being a believer We shall certainly make him live a good life, and shall give such people their reward for the best of what they used to do”.

According to the narration of Abu Huraira, once the angel) Gabriel came to the Prophet (pbuh)and asked, “What is faith?” Allah’s Messenger (pbuh) replied, ‘Faith is to believe in Allah, His angels, (the) meeting with Him, His Apostles, and to believe in Resurrection.” Angel Gabriel then asked the Prophet (pbuh), “What is Islam?” Allah’s Messenger (pbuh) replied, “To worship Allah Alone and no one else, to offer prayers perfectly to pay the compulsory charity (Zakat) and to observe fasts during the month of Ramadan.” (Bukhari 50, Book 2, 43).

Muslims must abide by the five pillars but also good and sincere practices. This including acquiring and disseminating useful knowledge, striving to progress in all aspects of life, struggling to purify the soul is a jihad (struggle) and far more important that the other type of struggle (military one). Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) said “the major jihad is the jihad to purify one’s self” (Ref??), propagating good and resisting evil (Amr Bil-Ma’rouf -Nahiy An Al-Munkar) The Quran states in Sura Aale Imran “Let there arise from you a group of people inviting what is good, enjoining what is right, and forbidding what is wrong; these are the ones who will be successful. (3:104), Avoiding and leaving bad company including the company of the enemies of Allah.
